Colors are Vital!

Color Power!


It is a bright and sunny Sunday morning! I am accompanying my mother to the local vegetable market or ‘subzimandi’ to buy our stock of the weekly vegetable supplies. The ‘mandi’ is come alive by the vibrant color and freshness of the fruits and veggies. It is indeed a visual treat…what with the bright reds, and greens and oranges and purples! One of the rituals I followed after coming home from the mandi visit was recreate it on paper. Truly a riot of colors it was.! But little did I know then that, what I was creating with my color palette was nature’s own color palette:). This is one of the most fond memories from my childhood…

Indeed,.Nature has found a clever way to highlight the nutrients in foods!. Different nutrients actually impart different colors to the foods they’re in. For instance, the anthocyanins that turn blueberries blue can also keep your mind sharp, the lycopene that turns watermelon and tomatoes red may also help protect against prostate and breast cancers, and the beta carotene that makes carrots and sweet potatoes orange can help keep your bones strong, your eyes healthy and boost your immune system.

An artist’s color palette , an amazing thing it is, bringing to life an empty piece of canvas. Just like an artist’s color palette, nature too has its own color palette, with each color gifting you, me and each one of us with health, strength, beauty and agility!

Let us be thankful to nature for this greatest gift and respect and utilize it with all our senses! Each and every color possesses specific powers , so let not any single color be ignored!

Therefore the one rule that we all need to follow when eating is to ‘eat the rainbow‘!. By including all the colors of the rainbow from fruits and vegetables, you are ensuring that your body is receiving all the nutrients and color energy it needs to stay healthy and balanced!
